Research Assistant – Dar es salaam – TAMWA

JOB PURPOSE:
The research assistant is responsible for supporting research, monitoring and evaluation activities for Marie Stopes Tanzania (MST) core business and projects and reports to RME Lead. As a member of research, M&E team, the research assistant will work closely with RME team, to ensure the attainment of MST goals and objectives though closer involvement in data collection, data processing, analysis and interpretation of various studies conducted within MST and preparing reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Data Collection: Collect quantitative and qualitative data by administering the questionnaire, conduct in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with study participants. Act as mystery clients to observe how services are being delivered at MST facilities;
2. Data processing and analysis: Participate in data entry, coding, data transcription and analysis;
3. Report preparation: Prepare various reports containing field reports, data entry and analysed reports;
4. Data quality assurance: Check completed work for accuracy, completeness of data entered and make any required changes immediately to ensure quality of your work before submitting to RME team;
5. Collaboration: Collaborates with other researchers and service providers to attaining the desired and reliable data.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and experience:
 Diploma in social science, health management or other related field
 Enough experience in conducting social and health researches
 Enough experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative researches using various methodologies
 Enough experience in administering Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices and Beliefs (KAPB) surveys
 Familiarity with nature of KAPB and in-depth interview questions and competence in probing
 Sound understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues
 Enough experience in processing and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, using data bases such as SPSS, EPI info, Nvivo is an added advantage
 Must be familiar with working in rural areas with focus on participatory processes
 Demonstrates research, monitoring and evaluation skills
 Must have excellent communication/interactive skills that function well independently, as well as with the team
 Familiarity with data quality assurance and research ethics

Skills:
 Good written and oral communication in both English and Kiswahili
 Proven ability to interpret verbal, written and numerical data
 Fluent in English and Swahili both oral and written
 IT literacy – proficiency in MS Office particularly Excel (essential) and SPSS
 Good analytical skills
