Field and Online Producer – BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action is looking for an experienced, creative and dynamic individual who understands BBC editorial standards and how to implement them within programming output. The field and online producer is responsible for producing a three minute version of Haba na Haba to air weekly on Fridays in BBC Amka.
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Reports to: Senior Producer – Haba na Haba
Contract duration: 6 months (with possible extension)

Main Duties:
Collecting content for radio and online platforms from the field;
Producing a three-minute version of Haba na Haba;
Working closely with the Senior Producer and Content Researcher during content planning;
Gather and verify factual information for topics through interviews, observation, and production research (depending on the format);
Working hand in hand with the Haba na Haba production team on assigned plans/ topics for social media output;
Working with the Senior Producer in preparing the weekly/monthly topics for the three-minute version of Haba na Haba;
Assisting production staff in preparing content for the overall Haba na Haba programme’s multimedia platforms;
Producing video/audio for social media;
Facilitating and coordinating field production for special events or debate programmes for Haba na Haba.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required
Gathers and verifies factual information for weekly topics through interview, observation, and research;
Organizes material, determines news lines, according to prescribed editorial style and format standards;
Works cooperatively with the production team on assigned stories, if one is assigned;
Prepare the episodes of the programme;
Assist production staff in preparing content for the show’s multimedia platforms;
Good editing skills.

Desirable
Experience in behaviour change communications projects, preferably in the health, governance or resilience/livelihoods sectors;
Prior experience with reputable Swahili broadcaster;
Good with editing skills.

Knowledge of the law, ethics and industry regulation as they affect radio and social media production;
Adequate knowledge of recording equipment for radio;
Ability to produce live while out on the field and coordinating a range of simultaneous technical activities during recording;
Ability to conduct effective internet research, use relevant computer software for audio editing and upload similar content for use online;
Fluent in English and Kiswahili.
