Aga Khan. Health Services Tanzania (AKHST] – an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a non-profit international organization that supports social development programs In Tanzania. AKHST Is undergoing a major expansion to position the Institution to become a Leading and Integrated tertiary and teaching health care system in Tanzania. AKHST will also be implementing a new and exciting project: Improving Access to Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) in Mwanza, Tanzania (IMPACT) – a four year Global affairs Canada (GAC) initiative which Will contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality by improving the availability and utilization of quality MNH services for women and their families In underserved areas of all seven districts of Mwanza

Gender Specialist
The Gender Specialist will lead on the planning and implementation of the projects Gender Equality Strategy and ensure that gender issues are appropriately mainstreamed throughout project implementation; The specialist will provide technical support and guidance and lead the gender assessment to ensure sufficient data on gender issues is gathered to inform the project interventions and that collected data is gender disaggregated.

Key Responsibilities;
-Project planning and design. Based on the information collected, the specialist will work with the project tear and community -stakeholders to determine priorities, activities and acts as the lead person in drawing gender an ensure that project intervention -packages, activities and processes as per the project components are gender, sensitive and meet the needs of both women and men.
-Project Implementation: Facilitate and take lead on gender equality assessment in the project to develop gender
-strategy and Identify and develop innovative activities related to Gender equality that contribute to social changes in the project area -to facilitate gender capacity building and learning agenda
-Project Support and Monitoring:- Work hand in with the M&E to oversee the monitoring of the implementation of project outputs related -to Gender and participate in evaluating project’s gender equality performance and lead on gender equality action planning.
-Reporting – Prepare project gender progress and analytical reports and statistics, gender disaggregated, project briefs and ensure that -management and stakeholders are up to date

Skills & Qualifications:
-Bachelors University degree on Gender and Development Studies, Social Sciences or any related field. Master degree will be an added advantage
-Minimum of three years in progressive working experience in gender related projects or activities
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Must have experience in conducting gender assessments and mainstreaming particularly in the health sector
