Safety and Security Assistant – Dar es salaam – Peace Corps Tanzania

The Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
The primary responsibilities of the SSA are ensuring security-related files are kept up-to-date; maintaining the Whereabouts reporting system; assisting in the analysis and reporting of security incidents; _preparing reports, training materials, and other resource materials; and maintaining up-to-date contact information for local and national police, transportation, and consolidation points. In addition, the SSA will act as the back-up to the Safety and Security Manager (SSM).
The incumbent will liaise as needed with local law enforcement, other government authorities, the Peace Corps Safety and Security Officers (PCSSO), Safety and Security Desk Officers and US Embassy security officials in carrying out the responsibilities of the position. The role of the incumbent supports security-related functions (i.e., site inspection and selection, Peace Corps Volunteer (PCV) site visits and revising the Emergency Action Plan). The incumbent must have sufficient English and local language skills to carry out these duties.

The Qualifications:
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other organizations, including local law enforcement, criminal justice, emergency management and other NGO/development agencies;
Must be able to obtain security clearance with the US Embassy;
Ability to analyze crime trends and other risks and propose mitigation strategies;
Demonstrated organizational and communication skills;
Ability to speak, read, and write in English (Level III) is required;
Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite, and other basic computer knowledge;
Ability to conduct training and give presentations, in both English and Kiswahili;
A high school diploma (or local equivalent); college degree preferred.
Priority will be given to those candidates with preferred qualifications such as experience with Peace Corps, safety and security programs, Tanzanian government/social structure, transportation’ systems in Tanzania, risk factors associated with Peace Corps Volunteers (crime, health, etc), and emergency response capabilities in Tanzania or law enforcement.
